"I mean look at this! My CDs, my clothes, he's trashed everything! And he-argh! Did you see what he did in my bed?!"

#00 XANA Awakens

Kiwi is Odd's dog, who only holds minor importance. We see him often in season 1 but his role diminishes. One thing's for sure, for Odd, Kiwi is just as important as a member of his family.
The animal's owner seems to have a large complex that sometimes makes Odd go a little gaga towards his animal. A comic effect often manifesting when Odd behaves like a carried-away cynophile, trying to take Kiwi everywhere with him, defending his intelligence, etc. He even becomes a little paranoid about the idea of leaving him in the care of someone other than himself (episode 87 “A Space Oddity”). But well...that's Odd...

The feline Lyoko Warrior pushes the limit to trying to virtualise his dog with him in episode 80 “Dog Day Afternoon”. Hiding him under his clothes, Kiwi doesn't appear on Lyoko...but Odd then adopts canine behaviour...even after devirtualisation. Jeremie is confronted once again with a problem to solve...

Kiwi is sometimes very useful to his owner, or is simply there when he needs a cuddle, when he wants to have fun or even when he wants to play a prank on Sissi and her minions or distract Jim. In this case, Kiwi is quickly disguised as a ghost (episode 16 “Claustrophobia”), as the perfect lover (episode 5 “Big Bug”), as a...rabid dog (episode 80 “Dog Day Afternoon) or even acts as a diversion (episode 3 “Holiday in the Fog”).
Dogs being forbidden at Kadic Academy, Kiwi is also a secret that must be kept! All the students seem to be aware of Kiwi's presence in the dormitory; they're very supportive of the plan, as well as Odd. Jim is constantly duped when he becomes suspicious of a pooch but never finds one...unless Sissi gives him a hand (episode 5 “Big Bug”). In fact, she even blackmails the heroes by revealing Kiwi's existence (episodes 13 “Just in Time” and 29 “Exploration)...
Jim also discovers Kiwi in episode 56 “False Lead”, thanks to cameras set by the secret agents, which made the principal question the gym teacher...

Kiwi isn't of much use when XANA attacks, aside from a few exceptions:
During episode 13 “Just in Time”, Kiwi is the only one capable of hearing the ultrasounds XANA uses to destroy the buildings at Kadic and he warns his master by barking.
In episode 33 “Final Mix”, Jeremie is tied up by XANA-Jim and the brainiac has no other way to call his friends but to call Kiwi, and it works.
Finally, in episode 86 “Canine Conundrum”, the dog jumps on the keyboard of the terminal at the factory, inadvertently recharging Odd's arrows.

On the other hand when XANA takes too much interest in Kiwi, the consequences can be dramatic. In episode 40 “Attack of the Zombies”, the virus uses the animal to transmit a virus through biting, a virus which quickly “zombifies” the whole school. Plus, Odd doesn't suspect his own animal, and is bitten himself. The heroes succeed on Lyoko, and luckily, because Code Lyoko in Resident Evil mode...they would've been after poor Kiwi. He's not there for nothing after all.

Code Lyoko Chronicles
The Underground Castle - Chapter 4

Describe a dog's character, nah but really...
However, Kiwi might not be an ordinary dog!

Though Jeremie describes him as a stupid animal that lacks any intelligence, Kiwi was able to prove him otherwise. The animal, even if the has a tendency to freak out, sometimes seems to understand his owner's mindset, bursts of rage and good moods (episode 62 “Nobody in Particular”). Even if Jeremie believes the contrary, Kiwi obeys certain orders like in episode 9 “Satellite” in which he carries a message from Jeremie to Yumi like a carrier pigeon...

Kiwi is very affectionate and likes to be stroked, like any mutt, I tell you! He will therefore often yap to obtain his daily dose of tenderness. He's not at all aggressive and growls very rarely, unless he's under XANA's control of course...
A very playful dog as Mr Ishiyama discovers (episode 87 “A Space Oddity”).

Also, it's comical to see Kiwi is a fearful dog. It's said that the dog that barks runs away with its tail between its legs to avoid a confrontation, and that's completely true for Kiwi: we see this clearly in “XANA Awakens” when the dog hides in the lift rather than attacking the killer electric wires. Sissi finds herself sheepish enough to hide behind the little animal, which would've been powerless anyway!

Even if in “XANA Awakens” Kiwi goes nuts and ravages Odd and Ulrich's room, the pooch seems to have adjusted well to indoor life, which isn't all that easy for a dog. Staying hidden in a drawer doesn't allow for any amusement, which is why Odd takes him out for air as much as possible (episode 27 “new Order”).

Nonetheless, Kiwi remains an animal and often doesn't know the consequences of his acts; like in episode 29 “Exploration”, he leads the principal and Yumi's parents straight to the factory.

#47 Tip-Top Shape

Kiwi is in some way Odd's mascot, and the group's mascot as a whole. He's therefore represented in a regular manner in various places in the series. You know "Where's Wally?"... Now, let's play "Where's Kiwi?"

...we find him on the front of his pyjamas...and the back!

Ever Jeremie seems to have fallen for the "stupid animal"...

Finally, the dog has even made a mark on his owner's imagination to the point of appearing in several places on Odd's virtual and Translated outfits.
