IFSCL Trailer, End of 3.6.X cycle

And here we are,
The interface game simulator of Code Lyoko (IFSCL) is back! And this time, to tease upcoming Immu's Room, and the end of 36X Cycle which has been here for a major part of this year.

If it will be necessary to wait until November 2018 to take advantage of this secret room (whose password will be added on this news, the trailer, from everywhere ..) you will have fortunately the 366 which will arrive around the end of October, full of changes :
LWRP implementation
Shader Graphs
Post Processing StackV2
Item Intermediary Screen
RealPanel option display
Real interaction cursors
SavedPrefs autoFix
Objective Manager
Wait Mode layout and Agenda merge
Franz Diary Revamp
Timeline PlayableDirector integration
Switch keyboardfocus window
Book Revamp
New tutorial notifier
New prefs saves paradigm
And many more changelog

In the background, the changes are gigantic, almost as important as the change of flash engine to Unity (if so, remember the famous '3.0.0' in 2016).
In practice, on the user side, you should not feel too many differences, if not a slight gain in performance: 3

On the development level, it's a lot of stones and rocks laid, especially for the future story mode to come in 2019;)

See you soon!

Hello everyone.

In this long trek through the desert of news about the Code Lyoko licence (thanks to our artists for doing some of the job...), we need to recognise that things are moving a little. A naïve, less-informed fan may think that this is due to the staff idling and the community declining, but you're cleverer than that! The reason for it is that the ballot of the licence between the buyers and the beneficiaries after Moonscoop's shipwreck is a real maze and, without going into the judicial considerations, it's extremely difficult to know who to address...

Despite all that, and especially thanks to Our Father Dudu's relentlessness, with some difficulty we've managed to re-establish and maintain contact within the professional sphere. Thanks to that, we will definitely be able to offer you a few news updates this summer: stay connected!

Along those lines, we need you!

Indeed, in a quid pro quo exchange with our contact at Mediatoon, we can now keep you more up-to-date on the progress of things. As such, for several weeks now, CodeLyoko.Fr has given Mediatoon various old school Code Lyoko media (bonus features from the old DVDs, for example) which weren't sent to Mediatoon by Moonscoop before they dissolved.
Thanks to these things we've made available to Mediatoon (entitled to our free content), they can now add more to their YouTube channel. But it doesn't end there.

In order to boost that channel, Mediatoon wants to relay Code Lyoko AMVs. For those who don't know, AMVs are small fan-videos, created using extracts from the Code Lyoko series and put together with music and effects, often following a particular theme...

Mediatoon would like to upload these AMVs to their channel while crediting the author.

Warning: the AMVs must meet some very strict criteria:
- They can only contain sequences from Code Lyoko (Mediatoon has not yet gotten the rights to CL Evolution, which expire in 2020).
- They must contain either music from the Code Lyoko series or music that's in the public domain.

In order to give you an idea of what a good AMV looks like, we invite you to look at the channel of Aelita Di Agostino, an artist featured in our "Gems Online."

If you're good at making video montages and you're interested in helping us pursue the Code Lyoko adventure a little longer and see your AMV on the Official Code Lyoko channel, don't hesitate to send us your videos/link at : staff.codelyoko.fr@gmail.com (yes, you can write your email in English!)
If you get involved, you'll be thanked with some small previews of our upcoming content 😉

Hello everyone,
the Code Lyoko Supercomputer Functionnal Interface (IFSCL) is back in version 3.6.X, the beginning of a new cycle that will be updated much more regularly, and for good reason, the IFSCL 3.6.1 arrives this week via the Kolossus Launcher
for 64-bit Windows.
The Mac and Linux versions will arrive later in the month, while for the support of 32-bit Windows, it is still under study, but it will not be able to remain forever.

Many corrections are still planned of course!

This include:
-Modern development behaviours (cloud save, cycle release, bug reports, auto perf review...)
-Improved virtual build
-WayTower info window
-LW Start options
-Skid creation
-Garage Skid creation
-Interactive Book system
-Revamp main menu
-Skid dockingShield
-MultiActivationWindow
-Skid control
-3D Paris City Map

Add to this the crowdfunding of IFSCL's votes, be careful, there is not a lot of time to participate!

Episode transcripts for the whole series!
Posted by Queen on 04/26/2018 at 10:00 (0 commentaires)  Ecrire un commentaire sur cet article  Imprimer cet article  Envoyer cette article à un ami
Hello, everyone!

Well, it looks like someone has a little too much time on her hands. Through several months of work, Queen has transcribed all 97 English-dubbed episodes of the series - plus the bonus The Training and The Race videos!

Maybe you didn't quite catch what a character said in a particular scene and you'd like to find out what it was. Maybe you're into making compilation videos or GIFsets and you'd like an easy reference to look through. Maybe you're vision-impaired and you'd like an extra tool to help describe the on-screen action to you. Maybe you'd just like to double-check something from an episode!

Whatever your reason, these transcripts are now at your disposal on the Conceptual Documents page. You can download the transcripts for individual episodes, or compiled versions containing all the episodes in each individual season.
(Please note: these files use Australian English spellings, so be wary of this when you Ctrl+F and search for a word that may have a different spelling outside your region.)

That's about all there is to say, so enjoy!

But the work doesn't stop there, oh no...
Stay tuned for more sometime in the future on CodeLyoko.fr!

Renault factory: A bit of history...

Hello.

A little something for those of you who are keen on history.
On the 17th of April, a historical documentary was aired on France 2, featuring the Renault factory in Billancourt and the people who worked there. For the record, this factory (one of the largest in France at the time with no less than 36,000 workers) is in its own way one of the last shrines of the industrial era, opened in 1929 during the interwar period and closed in 1992 with the decline of manual labour and the era of mechanisation.
The documentary is centred on the period from 1960, the 30 years of glory until 1992, by way of the events of May of '68. It notably gives voice to the last generation of employees at the factory: workers and office staff, in the office and in the workshop!

This (French) documentary can be downloaded or streamed by following the link below:

Les Hommes de Billancourt (The Men of Billancourt, in French)

Linking with our small photo gallery of the series' sources of inspiration:
The Renault factory in Billancourt

To conclude, a reminder that the factory was demolished at the end of 2004 and the island was turned into a cultural centre.
Have a nice Return to the Past on CodeLyoko.fr!

IFSCL 3.6.X: Trailer
Posted by Immu on 03/09/2018 at 19:00 (2 commentaires)  Ecrire un commentaire sur cet article  Imprimer cet article  Envoyer cette article à un ami
Hello everyone, the Fictional Interface of Code Lyoko's Supercomputer (IFSCL) is back... back again! And this time, for nothing less than creating the skidbladnir!

Original IFSCL music courtesy of Roroxana!

3.6.X ??

In fact 3.6.0, but it's in the 3.6.X cycle. New cycles (3.6.X, 4.0.X etc.) are still heavily promoted around annoucement, trailers, new logos, but not versions in between.
In the end, their should be as much ‘officialy promoted’ versions as before, but smaller version fixes should come more often in the background.
Things like Immu’s Room, which tends to be huge technical improvements but only released later after a release, will no longer slow down the process as they’re going to be added via new version after the release.

kolossus launcher

Kolossus Launcher will be the new standard to download and get updates on latest IFSCL version. This tool will also help me distributing Lyoko Conquerors once its released.

The legacy-standalone versions will also continue to be created as soon as a version cycle wraps up, to mark the history of IFSCL.
As soon as we get on a new major version (3.7.X for example), the previous major version latest update (3.6.3 for example) is kept and saved on IFSCL download section as 3.6.X (in this case), without launcher and with its original release date, just like any older version.
Also, to speed up dev process, 32bits windows is ruled out for now form new builds.

Only skidbladnir creation ? When do we get to pilot it ?
Be patient! Creating it will already be a challenge, and protect it from destruction too! That's two new types of attacks that are coming in, the draining scyphozoa and creeper/mantas attacks in the garage!
The creation of the said garage is also there, of course.
In both case, you'll have to read quite a bit! The inventory is filled up with new books containing informations. Fortunately, the game's help is also updated.

IFSCL 36x Screen IFSCL 36x Screen

Many other additions and improvement are also coming, a new main menu, an easier virtual build system, various fixes, and many original displays that never appears in the game (skid being drained, preparing multitower boost/scan...)
And as usual, a big rationalization of the windows (how are supposed to work the shields, the hull, garage skid docking, energy transfer between shields and such) that appeared in the show without further explanation.

Also, the multiscan/4 towers boost has a new purpose, contrary to the series, it will not only be needed to counter scyphozoa, but also the create the skidbladnir itself.
This is a variation around its use in the animated series, to make logical their need to create the skidbladnir 'in two parts', with the same 'timing' challenge they face off.

IFSCL 36x Screen IFSCL 36x Screen

When does it get released?

No day on the video date ? That's normal, the release date hasn't been decided yet and is meant to fit my busy schedulde and avoid useless stress.
The day, when confirmed, will be visible in the changelog and on the social networks, so please, dont' ask me ;)

Plenty of livestreams making of!
You've got hours of your time to lost with the sound of my voice ?

Enjoy!

Reboot: The Guardian Code
Posted by Shaka on 02/25/2018 at 15:34 (8 commentaires)  Ecrire un commentaire sur cet article  Imprimer cet article  Envoyer cette article à un ami
Hello everyone.

Older members of the French Code Lyoko community, who were around when the series started airing, will remember a time historians once called, "Le péril ricain," or "The American peril." Indeed, during the era of season 2 and all the way through season 4, a number of rumours spread about the will of the Americans and Cartoon Network purchasing the Code Lyoko licence. At the time, we all trembled as we imagined the effects of clichéed Americanisation on our truly French cartoon, with Yumi going up 3 bra sizes and Aelita being renamed Kimberley.
That never came to pass and if memory serves, the last episodes of season 4 of Code Lyoko were never even aired on CN because of a "commercial disagreement."

Later on, following the end of the series, many thought that the series may one day be taken up by Americans... We only got Code Lyoko Evolution.
Even later on, I long thought that CL's great success would one day in 2030 lead to a reboot or a continuation of the series by Americans or someone else...

What nobody saw coming was that the Americans would take the series up again someday...its content...its concept...its characters... But under another name, so as not to confuse copyrights or intellectual properties.

Indeed, we're here today to announce the upcoming release of a Netflix series which seems, not to be a continuation, but to be a reboot/complete rip-off of Code Lyoko under another name. Here are some details on it:

(This first bit will be treated a little lightly. Unlike Moonscoop or Dargaud, we don't answer to Netflix, so we can finally let loose a little and call them out on their crap! A more formal analysis will come at the end of the article, after the video).

This series is called, "Reboot: The Guardian Code."
The title already sounds familiar.

A quick overview of the synopsis:
“Four teenagers at Alan Turing High School are recruited by V.E.R.A, a "virtual evolutionary recombinant avatar," to protect cyberspace”

In it, we find teenagers attending a "school specialising in computing technology."
On a casting level, we've got: a black guy (black Ulrich), a comic relief character... (In the end, there's only Yumi who seems to be missing, logically replaced by a blonde girl who takes selfies).

They meet a virtual artificial intelligence (well then...). She ends up arriving at their school in flesh and blood (Oh...).

But before that, she trains them to defend the virtual world (!!!)...
To do this, they use a very simple process: virtualisation. (You may think that it's performed differently to in Code Lyoko, but....no!).
Once in the virtual world, you'll find out heroes in their virtual outfits with superpowers (On my mother's life!). But because Cyberspace is vast, they also need to explore a place that looks a lot like a certain global network, like two peas in a pod.

They fight different threats on the world, spawned by the malicious virus created by an evil computer genuis hidden in the shadows behind his screen.

I think we've arrived at the stage where you should believe me a lot more, so here's the video trailer:

Back to a more pragmatic view.

Effectively, at first sight, this trailer seems to be a mix of 70% Code Lyoko, 20% Tron and 10% Iron Man. To an extent that with serious reservations, it's incredible to wonder how far Netflix will go before they're afraid of a plagiarism lawsuit.

However... This series, as its name indicates, is a reboot. But it's not a reboot of our cartoon, rather another cartoon called, "ReBoot".

If that doesn't mean anything to you, that's normal.
It was a Canadian cartoon aired between 1994 and 2001. It was broadcast in the country of the maple leaf. It tried to spread to the USA, but it had very little success due to competition between the big animation channels. It then tried to export across the Atlantic to the United Kingdom, but it was very quickly censored due to complaints from parents who thought the cartoon and its characters were too violent and crude for their young children.
So in the end, it retained very limited notoriety among cartoon lovers. Here is its synopsis:

"The story takes place inside a computer. Bob is a Guardian who is charged with maintaining the security of the Mainframe system, in which can be found a virus named Megabyte. The virus tries at all costs to infiltrate the SuperComputer, another much more powerful system that Bob originally comes from, in order to infect it. Bob also has allies in the form of Dot Matrix (a young woman who manages a large part of the system and is at the head of the restaurant Dot's Diner), his particularly reckless little brother Enzo who's always accompanied by his dog Frisket, and Phong the "old sage." They do all they can to fight against Megabyte's offensives, but also to take part in games hosted by the user of the system, which manifest as violet cubes that fall from the "sky," and in which they must battle the user at all costs: if they lose the round, they will be deleted and will provoke the destruction of a sector of the Mainframe."

The new series you just watched the trailer for was pitched in 2013, commissioned by Netflix in 2015, filmed in 2017 and will release on the 30th of March 2018 on Netflix.
It will be both a reboot and a continuation (in the style of Code Lyoko Evolution) that notably ignores the fact that the fourth and final season of the original cartoon ended on a cliffhanger.
So, the new series may both continue the cartoon (yet to be seen!) and renovate the concepts of the series universe. It will keep the old characters from the cartoon and introduce new ones. However, visually, in the reboot, we can't help but notice that they've borrowed extremely notable elements from other series, notably Tron and Code Lyoko... The new series is indeed very far from the original cartoon, visually speaking...

Now... How should one react?

-    First of all, if you're not afraid of huge American clichés (because even the opening swamped us) and if the theme of the battle between humanity and cyperspace is still a passion of yours, throw yourself into this series.
-    If you're more outraged like the CL.fr writing team, you can watch the first few episodes and see if our first prejudices are true or not.
-    In a lighter manner, you can also content yourself with looking at this series in a more curious manner: indeed, due to its format, the series will address an older audience and as a result, it's possible that a number of "taboos" of the Code Lyoko cartoon in terms of humour, romantic relationships, etc...will be touched on in this series, and that it will include gags or lines that we'd hoped to see at the time of Code Lyoko.

As for us, we'll remain prudent but we'll try to keep an open mind about this little series, and maybe we'll end up doing some more extensive work on it. We'll see...

To be continued...
On March 30th! Only on Netflix!

Death of Carlo de Boutiny

Hello everyone.

Those of you who are better connected will already have heard the news, especially those who are following Thomas Romain on Twitter. One of the fathers of Code Lyoko passed away last week. It was Carlo de Boutiny, whose name appears in all the openings of Code Lyoko.
This man was a writer for cinema and although he wasn't very well known to the LyokoSphere in the end, he guided the young Tania and Thomas at the end of their studies and helped them to take the first steps in the Garage Kids/Code Lyoko project.

Here are two links to Tweets by Thomas Romain on the subject:

https://twitter.com/Thomasintokyo/status/959367229480493056 "We developed the CODE LYOKO project together in 2001. With great sadness I've just learned that my friend Carlo de Boutiny has left us. As well as being a formidable person, Carlo was a talented writer. I miss his words."

https://twitter.com/Thomasintokyo/status/959755987119874049
"The Code Lyoko project was initiated by Tania Palumbo and myself just after we left animation school. Carlo, who had his origins in cinema, brought us his writing experience. He did a lot of work with the director Jan Kounen."

10 years later... Scripts vs Episodes seasons 1-4!

Hello everyone!

Some Code Lyoko news! What an emotional sequence...

Today, the site team is mostly busy managing the inescapable passage of the end of study, going out and looking for their first job and a happy future. But that doesn't stop us from continuing to keep an ear out for series news, content and community.

Like all good artists, we're therefore looking to fill a few remaining gaps on CodeLyoko.Fr. No, we're not going to create a v6 and no, we're not going to move the site to HTTPS or rework the forum.

However, we're tirelessly working to fix the rare gaps in our content… And the people who know the site well enough may be able to see what we're getting at here. (If not, you might just need to read the title of this news post…)

After some long investigations, a large campaign of correspondence with different people and a little boost from a certain Bérik, we have finally managed to get our hands on the scripts for season 4 of Code Lyoko.

As a bit of history, the scripts for the episodes from seasons 1 to 3 were sent to us by Sophie Decroisette each time an episode came out. Suddenly, at the start of season 4, Moonscoop decided that it had to stop: it was obvious that some fans preferred to read the episode script instead of watching the episode on TV or buying the DVD… May they rest in peace. So, we had to cut our losses with season 4.

As for Evolution's scripts, we slyly made off with them thanks to our connections with certain members of the film crew and actors.

Today, 10 years after the end of season 4 (10 November 2007), we have managed to acquire these highly prized production documents. Although, unfortunately, our contact was able to send us all the scripts except for a single episode. So the only one we're now missing is the script of episode 91 "Bad Connection". If somebody ever finds it at an auction…

In conclusion of all this chatter (Did I lose you?)
The scripts can be downloaded through the Episode Guide or the Conceptual Documents page. (If you look at the Conceptual Documents page, you can also see another project I'm working on, just beneath the scripts! - Queen)

But that's not all…
Because we do our jobs well, we have waited several months before releasing the scripts, and we - notably Dude Dudu - have taken the time to update our huge, gargantuan and world-exclusive file, "Scripts to episodes comparison".

This file is a must-read for all fans of the series, showing the most remarkable changes between the paper version of the episode (writer's scripts) and the result shown on TV (after it's gone through the production pipeline). It has a homepage with a top 10, and then several pages going over each episode to compare the changes that occurred to each one.

After our update, the
top 10 became a top 12 most notable changes, adding what are, in our opinion, the two most interesting changes of season 4.
The list of Jim's jobs mentioned only in the scripts also gains an additional entry.
And obviously, two pages listing all the modifications in season 4 have appeared in the file:
 [Page 1 - Ep. 66 to 80] [Page 2 - Ep. 81 to 95]

And yes, it's all in English! Seasons 1 to 4 (but not Evolution) of the Scripts vs Episodes file have all been translated and you can now read them at your leisure.

Have a nice read!

Thanks to Queen and Nelbsia for the two illustrations for the top 12, and for continuing to answer our call even 10 years later…
Finally, Immu and the rest of the team will continue to "celebrate" the 10 years since the end of the series with a few other small news articles throughout the month of November, so keep checking back to CodeLyoko.fr!
